Epic RPG, Online and Off, A Historical Account And The Mummy

by America P. Hammond

The epic RPG has morphed considerably since its inception. Although role-playing-games have assuredly been around longer, what we recognize as the RPG began as Dungeons and Dragons, a table game between friends. Simultaneously, the first online RPG was established as Dungeons, becoming the first computer sword and sorcery game. The concept of the table-top RPG expanded into one with battlefields played out as reenactments of actual battles and later original skirmishes, complete with arsenals and authentically painted miniatures. Somehow I can just see men as long ago as the 16th century amusing themselves in their parlors, creating the original RPG.

Live Action Role Playing games were the next incarnation of the RPG in which people took on the roles of their characters in real time, usually playing in a room or area natural to the scenario. I can see those 19th century romantic poets amusing themselves like that. LARP-type epic RPGs often involve detailed costumes and props.

Technological advancements have taken the narrative RPG into the realm of the epic RPG by rendering incredibly realistic environments and, starting with just a tease of a storyline, the gamer goes on to create his own battle fantasy.

The film franchise, The Mummy has birthed a proprietary epic RPG. Motivated by the supernatural milieu inhabited by sorcerers, Pharaohs, and their evil minions, this will become a much-loved game. The gamer will delight to the accuracy of the 1930s Egypt setting taking its inspiration from the golden days of Egyptology. The game boasts those realistic environments, and thanks to Unity, an awesome gaming engine, it even sports 3D scenes without need for expensive 3D capabilities on your computer. Massive environments spawning millions of minions and deadly characters hide within the labyrinthine tombs. As your jaw drops in awe of your environs, look out because your reverie will quickly be disturbed by some denizen of desert death.

Hone characters according to your own desire and dexterity, whether Raider or Cultist, Brawler, Scholar, Priest or Enforcer. One-on-one, raiding in bands, or full-on melees with any combination of power - fire or magic, can be had in this epic RPG. Armaments for every style are included in this game, from guns to knives and sword or relics, potions and scrolls. All this RPG needs is you and your individual touch, whether you choose lone or team play.
