How to make your baby room look great

by Bert Roberts

Making your new born's room is quite the exciting activity. Every thing starts with picking the best furniture, bed, and wall accents. Furniture is undoubtedly the most important in determining the layout and feel of the room. After you've selected the crib and crib canopy, you'll want to choose matching furniture. What I mean by matching is that you'll want the colors of the wooden or the iron crib to be complemented by the furniture. If you don't like a lot of decisions and want your baby's furniture to match exactly, there are a large amount of pre-set styles to choose from. However, if you're planning to showcase the colors in your crib, there is lovely baby furniture in every color and style you can imagine. Just make sure that the color of your baby's room is a decent backdrop for your furniture. When it comes to color, you could choose to either go solid or go mural. Colorful and vibrant accessories look great against a solid background. With murals, you can really exercise your creativity. You could make your ceiling look like the sky and your floor like flowers, or you could have a jungle scene as a backdrop to the crib. Simple accessories accent murals best.

After you have the best wall color for your crib and crib canopy with corresponding furniture, you can then pick the right bedding. Bedding is a good place to begin in identifying precisely what the remainder of the baby room accessories will be. For example, a jungle theme can have jungle animal bedding, together with a matching baby blanket, bumper, dust ruffle, and valance. There are even places where you can get a complimenting diaper stacker and wall hangings, which will be certain to make your decorating process a snap.

Now imagine your little girl's name inscribed in delicately etched pink letters suspended above her crib. Maybe a few framed pictures of a giraffe, alligator, and rhino would look fantastic above your son's bed. You get your pick among inspiring wall hangings that will make your baby's space full of personality. To go along with your design, you could get a safari wall shelf for your boy's toys, or wooden hooks crafted to appear like crowns for your little princess. Be sure to chose the perfect picture frame for his/her tiny foot prints or baby's first day home. The options are endless so have fun and let your imagination run wild.

Now that you've got the right crib with a matching crib canopy, your furnishings, and all your wall decorations, there is the thrill of picking those last few accents for your baby's room. Window coverings, lamps, carpets and other assorted items will finish the picture and make your child's room not just a piece of art but also an area of utter peacefulness and tranquility.

How much direct sunlight comes into your baby's room will determine which kind of window covering you will want. If there will be direct sunlight, then you could pick out a floor to ceiling fabric panel that's heavy enough to filter out all light or try a cordless roman shade. For all those hot days, go with a complementary sheer curtain designed to give you that perfect touch of elegance. Pick from various curtain rods with delicate glass butterflies, flowers, or stars around the ends to add the final touch.

Proper lighting for your room is vital. Nice soft light for waking your baby up or bright light for the changing table is beneficial for both you and your baby. There are two approaches to achieve this. The first is to purchase a dimmer switch for the ceiling light so you can control the amount of brightness. The second way is to have lamps which you can turn on when you don't need those strong ceiling lights. From zebra-print to lace, a few lamps always support more creativity, because of their numerous designs.

Managing style and sturdiness is necessary when looking for the perfect rug. Keep in mind how long you need that rug to last. Are you going to save the same rug for more than one child? Is the child likely to be playing mostly in his/her room, or do they use a separate room to play in? Is this rug covering a wood surface or carpeted floor? For a wood floor, you might want a very cushy and soft rug to act as the perfect play area. With a carpeted room, thickness won't be as much of a concern, and you might want a number of small rugs as highlights.

Storage bins like baskets are another aspect to consider in the pursuit of good design and versatility. Baskets of all materials can be used if they fit into bookcases and can be labeled. Mirrors, mobiles, art work, growth charts and ornamental dresser nobs are all fantastic solutions to add individuality to your baby's room. Most importantly, be sure to make your baby's room a place where precious memories will be made.
