When you are trying to take close-up shots you should use optical zoom instead of digital zoom. You can continue zooming much closer to your focus subject; however, the image will have sacrificed quality when digital zooming is used. When digital zoom kicks in, the camera interpolates pixels to fill in the image, so the picture won't be as sharp. Consult your camera's owner's manual to determine how to turn you camera's digital zoom mode.

When you take pictures of children, sometimes it's great to let them dictate the action while you relax and go with it. It is often difficult to get children to sit down and pose for a portrait. As an alternative, get creative and snap them in motion.

Try to be close and personal. Move closer to, or zoom in on the subject when you frame your shot. Make sure the subject fills the frame. No matter how beautiful the background is, too much of it distracts from the picture's focus. Details also become more visible and engaging when subjects are closer.

Night photography can help photography be seen in a new light. You should utilize proper lighting equipment during nighttime shoots, as natural light will be unavailable. Proper exposure procedures include slower shutter speeds and changing your aperture settings.

You will have a better picture if your subject is off-center a little. Pre-focus your camera, and move a little to one side. Centering a subject in a picture is an expected tactic and may detract from the interest of the photo. Taking an off-centered shot will make your subject more interesting to view.

Take pictures of your souvenirs when you travel. Make separate photo albums for each trip you have photographed. This will allow you to create a story behind the objects you bought as souvenirs that you will enjoy when you return home.
