Everybody has a few decorative items shoved into closets and drawers that only come out when the giver comes over. Could you let them stay out all the time? There is no law that says you have to keep them displayed for all eternity but it is a nice (and free!) way to decorate your home while you save up for the more expensive things that you've been looking at. Another bonus to this plan is that you won't have to frantically hunt through your home for that statue your mother in law gave you the next time she calls to say that she's on her way over!

What about all of those knick knacks and decorative items people have given to you over the years? There are always at least one or two items that we keep hidden until the person who gave them to us comes over to visit us. Have you thought about just leaving them out? This is a great way to decorate your home while you save up the money you need to buy the pieces that you truly want and that blend in with your decorating scheme. Keeping the items on display will save you a lot of stress because this way you won't have to worry about anything if the person who gave you that crazy statue shows up for an impromptu get together. Many people get distracted by the cost of decorating when decorating can easily be done without spending a lot of money. Get inspiration from the decorating schemes of your friends. When you see a decorating scheme you like ask yourself "how can I recreate this for less money?" Home decorating does not have to cost lots of money. It is even possible to decorate without spending any money at all!
