Successful Parenting Tips

by Beverly Teran

A useful tip for any parent is to resist the urge to do everything for your children. Instead, help your kids learn to do things on their own. In this way, they will develop an invaluable sense of confidence in their own skills and abilities and grow into capable, independent adults.

Prepare your child for a lifetime of safe street-crossing behavior. Always hold hands, look both ways, and then look both ways again when crossing a street or walking across a parking lot. Starting early will instill the importance of this responsible in your child, keeping them safe and sound as they walk to school or accompany you to the store.

A great parenting tip is to not try and lay guilt on your child all the time. If you are always trying to make your child feel guilty for something they have done or haven't done, your child will develop a complex and will greatly resent you for it.

A great parenting tip is to always be direct, yet calm whenever you have some sort of problem. This will demonstrate to your child how they should react in similar situations. If you're passive aggressive, your child might respond to problems in a passive aggressive way which won't benefit them.

A great parenting tip is to encourage your child to participate in sports. By encouraging your child to participate in sports, you're helping them socialize and stay fit at the same time. It can also be a great way to bond because they'll remember how you always went to their games.

If you find that you need to put eyedrops in a baby's eyes, it may seem to be an impossible feat. Lay your baby on her back and set a favorite toy on her belly so she will look down at it. Place a drop in the corner of your baby's eye and this way when she looks up again it will gently roll into her eye.

Join a breastfeeding support and parenting group prior to giving birth to help you be comfortable in your breastfeeding. Women who join a group prior to giving birth are usually much more comfortable with breastfeeding than those who didn't. The ability to learn and ask questions prior to having a crying baby in front of you is a lifesaver.
