The Creative Art Of Tweaking Your Pictures With Elements

by David Peters

Because of the latest technology, capturing memorable moments have now become very easy. Apart from digital cameras, phones now come along with built-in cameras that make it much easier to take images and preserve these precious moments. But what about those photos that you've taken way before digital cameras became an asset?

Lots of people may get really discouraged and disappointed with numerous photos taken with still cameras because of the bad quality of the photo. Even if you've managed to find the negatives and have them reprinted, if the pictures were poorly taken to begin with, having it reproduced will be useless. But that does not mean to say that these couldn't be restored. Using basic elements of Adobe Photoshop, you would be able to improve the quality of the pictures and keep the memories alive.

Below are a few nifty strategies to fine-tune your photos with easy elements from Adobe Photoshop:

Cropping

You look amazing in your high school prom photo, but you'd rather forget that guy standing right next to you. Using the crop tool, you can be able to keep a copy of your high school prom photo sans your ex-sweetheart. After scanning the photo and opening the file in your Adobe Photoshop, drag the cursor while holding down the left button in your mouse to select the area that you desire to keep. Then simply click Image and choose Crop. You'll be left with the chosen area of the image which you've highlighted.

Repairing the Angles

If your little one tried to take a photo and it came out a bit tilted, you may realign it so that it comes out straight. Just select the measuring tool located in your menu toolbar on the left side of your monitor. Click on one horizon of the image that you'd like to re-align and then dragging it the cursor to the other end. This would repair any minor misalignments. If it still looks a little off, click on the canvas option and rotate it on the canvas until you're pleased with it. The software will automatically expand the canvas to fill in the empty spots.

Color Touch Ups

If the lighting caused the picture you took to come up a littl bit too orange, you can also remedy this by modifying the colours on the photo. Go to Image then select Adjustments and then Color Balance. It'd open up a menu that would permit you to repair the colors of the picture. Simply drag each cursor right or to the left. As Adobe Photoshop has a preview feature, it'd permit you to see the adjustments as you drag the cursors to help you make the image come as close as how you remember it.

Sharpen

The most common of all images taken by film cameras is that often they tend to look a little bit blurred. To enhance the details of the picture, choose the sharpen feature in the Filter option on the menu bar. The application will automatically sharpen the details of the image a bit at a time. Continue the whole process until you're pleased with the details of the entire photo.
