Homemade vs. Portable Beer Pong Tables, You Decide!

by Derek Reed

You are stuck at a cross-road. You want a beer pong table. Maybe it's for your upcoming party. It could be a gift for someone. Or maybe you just love beer pong so much. The problem is you don't know whether to make one of your own (because it seems so easy) or purchase one from a store. So let's weigh our options while discussing going portable versus homemade.

So... some friends tell you it's easy to make one from scratch, well have you ever done it before? Are they going to help you with your project? These are some important questions to consider. Homemade tables can give you a sense of accomplishment but how do you personalize it? Not only does the planning then building of the beer pong table take time but coming up with a artistic design to personalize your table can take forever for the not so creative. How much easier and faster would it be to skim through some preset awesome designs and pick one according to almost any theme your heart desires. Even if you were to create your own design and begin to work on it, you are human aren't you. Human error accounts for most failings in design mistakes whether it's the table not coming together so well or your personal design not transferring so well from paper to finished product.

The location of your beer pong games can have a major impact on your decision too. If playing in your garage, are you able to or would you feel like moving a homemade table afterwards, in order for others to park? Dorm rooms or hallways would be a hard place to put a permanent table, considering all the foot traffic. Let's say you have a house with a rec room or family room to entertain guests. Do you really want to permanently take up space with your beer pong table and not be able to entertain your guests in any other fashion in that room? A portable table solves all those problems. It can be folded into a suitcase to fit in any storage area. It also only weighs around 25 pounds for easy travel.

Wood tables easily warp from liquid exposure. They also shrink and expand due to the change in heat. When exposed to liquids metal tables can permanently stain or rust. Wear and tear prevention can be the hardest or most expensive part of your project. So why not get a table that you know is going to is going to last you long into your beer pong playing future. How frustrated would you be to have to rebuild your masterpiece just because it didn't bear up to a little natural damage? Premium high quality tables have been the preference of most customers because they know the value of doing it right the first time.

So what have we learned? Building anything with your bare hands from scratch can be a pleasing feeling. But the effort and materials it takes, the space you'll be sacrificing, or the wear and tear that will accrue is it really worth your time? Only you can decide. Let's not forget, though, the best part of having a portable beer pong table. You can enjoy the game anywhere! Tailgating, at a bar, where you live, at a friend's, or even off to college. The possibilities are endless. So get excited, go portable, and play some beer pong!
