Decked Out In Men's Summer Footwear

by Andrew Prior

In a last ditch attempt to make the most of the remaining sunshine months, men's fashion footwear is kicking up some pleasing trends to compliment your summer wardrobe.

At the heart of summer espadrilles have had a welcome come back in men's designer footwear. Naturally with a contemporary twist the old favorite has been remade in summer brights thanks to Superdry, Adidas Originals, Alornerk by Ted Baker and Mad Wax, whilst TopMan and Toms University combine colour with contrast and Asos uses striped prints, Kurt Geiger presents the Esparto and Urban Outfitters and Castaner present their designs in check. Lace up designs come in luscious leather in the H by Hudson collection, neutral canvas in the Nostalgia designs by Diesel, mesh in Fabio DM by Dune, Smithy's suede and textile material from Office's Ask The Missus Tokyo.

Deck shoes not only look exceedingly cool but help bring their own summer dreams to life with visions of sun-filled days down on the waterfront. Authentic boat shoes can be seen with original design white-laced threaded eyelets and contrasting sole from N.D.C, Henri Lloyd, French Connection's Sabian, Marvin & Co's Nauticode or masters of casual cool, Pointer. Pointer have effortlessly combined the deck shoe with another season favourite of the ankle boot to offer the Benson in traditional navy and white, plus they have added a touch of moccasin style into the mix while keeping that deck shoe eyelet design and distinctive white sole with their canvas and suede 'Taylor' design in the opposing yet clearly compatible, Peacoat and Wheat Cream.

Sneakers are retro this season with favourites coming from Puma's California, Zoom Match by Nike and Samba from Adidas Originals, or choose distressed looks from casual kings Converse. For a mix-up of fabrics look to Taua's Veja range of plimsolls in suede, Penguin's use of denim or Fred Perry Vintage that presents the shoe in canvas.

Stepping up to stand out from the crowd in dress shoes, contrasting colours have garnered the right kind of attention this summer. The classic inspiration of the saddle shoe has allowed new designs and a mix of hues to come to light with plush mix of cream and burgundy from Pointer's Charlie shoes that looks good enough to eat and a variation in trainers in navy or rust with brown's and brick coloured soles from progressive British label YMC. American designer Mark McNairy's distinguishing yellow sole in his New Amsterdam range certainly catches the eye, especially when matched with the subtle suede tones of Dirty Buck on his Plain Derby shoe. The high colour suede of Jil Sander or Lodger's desert boots with rubber sole also visually please, alongside the stark brown and white of Baracuta's Warner and the black and white of Loake's Sloan brogues.

In the hot weather ensure you stay cool with sandals that are anything but a tourist nightmare, the perfect complement to military cargo pants and chinos in natural tones are buckled leather sandals from Berkenstock, opt for the Vaduz with one strap or two on New York design and Arizona, PS by Paul Smith sports cross over strapped leather sandals as does the Veranda style from Caterpillar. Still popular are Gladiator themed designs, KG by Kurt Geiger presents Cast, H by Hudson champions Ponteius or choose Indigo from Dune. Cause a stir with bright flip flops including heavy coloured Havaianas, alongside contrasting two-tone designs from Superdry's GT2 and Beach by Ben Sherman embracing the season's panache for colour in rubber, or try a leather pair from Fly and UGG Australia.

Footwear is not to be neglected in the this season in men's clothing, so go retro this season with Puma and Nike, and visit Glass Boutique to deck yourself out in feet's finest.
