Embrocation, also referred to as liniment, is a formula used on the skin, primarily for medical purposes. It may come in a powder, cream, ointment, paste, or gel. It can relieve pain and stiffness associated with arthritis and sore muscles, and protects cyclists and horses from elements of weather.
For cyclists, this product is usually put on the legs. Though it can also be applied to the neck, tops of shoulder and lower back. The formula contains a base similar to shea butter with an emollient much like beeswax, and oils such as grapeseed and sesame.
Usually this product is employed in wet or cold weather. Its properties allow it to insulate and repel water. Furthermore, it has warming elements. Natural herbs, such as cinnamon, create this effect, which is similar to the feeling given when using products like Icy-Hot and Ben-Gay.
This product can be purchased and several stores. Before applying it, remove any water or debris on skin. Next, apply a generous amount. Generally no more than two coats are needed. Thoroughly rub it in. There may be some gloss or sheen residue left on skin.
This is not made for use on sensitive parts of the body and even when applied, should be done so wearing latex gloves. First-time users are urged to start with a small amount, as effects will vary. Ingredients may take some time to activate.
Embrocation is a product used in many ways. Available as a paste, powder, ointment, cream and gel, this substance is rubbed onto the skin. Generally, it is used for medical purposes, but it is has been used on horses and by athletes.
