Do You Want To Buy A Baby Monitor? Use These Tools To Help You Find The Right One!

by Mihaela Wurt

Parents looking to find a baby monitor may be in for a surprise when they find out that it's not as easy as it used to be to choose. If you were to look back to even just 10 years ago, you would probably find only a few choices for baby monitors which only offered a few features, but these days baby monitors can practically do just about anything (except changing your baby's diaper of course)! But, whether or not you are technologically inclined and want all of the latest high tech gadgets for your baby monitor, or if you simply want to find a baby monitor which is "user friendly" for your baby, all you need to do is know the right things to consider, so use these tips to help choose the right baby monitor.

Yes - it's stressful and can be overwhelming. You want to keep track of your baby even when you leave the room, but you aren't sure what kind of system is right for you and your family. It's hard to know how much you should pay. You're inside a store and see so many different kinds of monitors with different features. It's not hard to feel frustrated or overwhelmed - but try not to worry! So let's talk about how to determine which monitor system will be great for your baby and you.

If you are living in an apartment building or something similar with a lot of other families around, you will want to find a unit which gives you a wide range of frequencies, so that you can eliminate any interference from those sources. This is important to consider, because you don't want to be picking up on the frequencies from other people's devices, and even other's baby monitors, which can prevent you from hearing what is actually happening in your own baby's room. To what extent do you want to monitor your baby? Some parents prefer the comfort of a system which can track literally everything that is going on while they are not in the room, down to the last detail. Some other parents may simply find it too overbearing or nerve racking to actually sit and watch or hear every little noise or occurrence that comes from the room. If you need the added monitoring to feel secure that your baby is okay, you'll want to choose a system that has video feeds as well as audio feeds, as these can record and monitor your baby's every movement and allow you to watch the feed as it is broadcast. Other parents prefer the simple, audio only based monitors that will alert them only when the baby is crying or in distress. Remember that your decision does not reflect on your parenting abilities directly, because the system itself should simply be one that helps YOU get your tasks done as easily and effectively as possible when you are not in the same room as your baby, and since we have many responsibilities as adults, we cannot always be in the same room.

Because other surrounding devices from other apartments or homes close by can interfere with your device, you will want to choose one which comes with a wide range of frequencies so that there will not be any interference. This is important to consider, because you don't want to be picking up on the frequencies from other people's devices, and even other's baby monitors, which can prevent you from hearing what is actually happening in your own baby's room.

As you're shopping around, you'll notice many baby monitors have an operating frequency of 49 Mhz. That frequency will usually have a great of signal interference and noise, and that's more than likely why they are so inexpensive. These are the systems that will also try to field calls from your neighbors cordless phones, pick up conversations had on cell phones by passing drivers and, potentially even your neighbors' monitoring system. Monitors with higher operating frequencies won't have these annoying problems and they're less difficult to use. The best frequency for a system is 2.4GHz, which offers the best sound available.

But, perhaps the ability to keep a visual eye on your child may be the most important concern.
