In some ways golfing and fishing are similar but not in the wrist motions necessary for a good cast or shot, in golf you want to avoid the fishing flip of the wrist. It is an inherent feeling to need to flip the wrist but this is a bad idea right at contact. The goal is to have your wrist straight out during follow through. If you can do this you will reduce your slice and keep your ball more on target. It also helps the ball go farther by increasing the strength behind the contact point. When you hit the ball, you want to hit it down and through. When your club lifts, then that will make the ball rise. The ball will not rise because you somehow tried to do an upswing motion on the club. Just don't do that because it's the wrong way to hit the ball. Trying to hit the ball this way will send the ball high into the air but it may not send it far out from you. You're more likely to send the ball straight up and then straight back down again!
Keep your weight on the inside of your right foot. For those who are just starting out, they really need to learn that one well about weight distribution. So what you'll do is sort of 'rest' on the right knee so you'll have a better chance of generating more natural power. If you do not do that, then your swing will not be consistent and so will the direction of travel of your ball. Your consistency will also be improved the more you can be steady in your swing. Think of your right leg as a column.
Golf is a great game. People of all ages can enjoy golf. Small children can enjoy golfing, as well. Everybody has to work on their golf swing. It will take time and effort to develop for you to develop your golf swing.
Improving your golf swing is really nothing more than practicing good posture and core balance.
