Making Your Baby To Sleep At Night Time

by Brett Burnam

Do you have a baby who sleeps during the day and keeps you awake during the night? Most mothers and fathers have that complaint.

Newborn babies will need 16 to 20 hours of sleep daily. Unfortunately, this sleeping time is usually broken up into 2-4 hour periods. The key is to get your baby into a routine sleeping schedule. This type of consistency will allow you ample time for household chores, a good night's rest, and time in general just for you (because we know that all moms need some of that.)

You may just be one tweak away from a good night's rest. Here are some ideas that will help your baby sleep on a schedule.

The key to getting a baby to sleep consistently is by keeping bedtime rituals. You should not do different routines for getting your baby to sleep. You should be very consistent.

It's best if you have the room darkened and quiet. A baby's sleeping schedule can be interrupted by almost any kind of noise. Therefore, you'll want your baby to be in a room that is away from noises.

Routines before bedtime helps your baby know that's it's almost time to sleep. These should be calming activities. You could sing or rock the baby.

You should keep the nursery at the right temperature. A comfortable room temperature will help your child comfortably sleep through the night without waking.

Of course, your baby will tend to cry sometime. Controlled crying is a method used by numerous parents, and with success. You should let your baby cry for about five minutes before calming him down. Remain only long enough to pat his back and say a few kind words. You should do this without picking him up. You should always say soothing words when you go into the nursery. Through all that, your baby will learn that crying will do nothing and he will feel comforted by your presence and your soothing voice.

You'll find that most babies begin sleeping through the night by 9 months. Like all things, soon this too shall pass.
