Privately owned EVA Air has a background that is an interesting read. Due to their portfolio of willing investors, they have not had to go public to stay in business. Using guaranteed funds from private investors, they had a record-breaking start using long-haul aircraft. Serving a multitude of continents worldwide, EVA is responsible for domestic and international flights in most countries. Flying since the early 90s, this company has international and domestic cargo hauling arrivals and departures. EVA has accomplished much in the last couple decades which we will discuss in the remainder of this article.
EVA had a tiring year in 2010, according to many aspects. Aside from lengthening their routes and mixing up their management, they were able to place bids for more collaborations. In order to increase the number of destinations in Canada, the company completed several inroads via a new service route to Toronto. Then later in the year they added a connecting flight from Taipei to Tokyo Japan. By and large, the year showed an increase in annual profits which proved the company was powerful. In the intermediate, there will be anticipation of new growth wherewithal. The explanation for this is EVA has placed their application with the Star Alliance of linked airlines. After that has been approved, then there will be a greater number of good things coming about for EVA.
EVA sought to develop the internal air passenger market within Taiwan, and they made a bold move in the middle of the 1990s. The airline invested in three airlines in order to make that happen. EVA tried gaining the market by combining airlines, including Great China Airlines, Makung International Airlines, and also Taiwan Airways. Later in the decade, in mid 1998, those three airlines were merged within UNI Air. After EVA took control of UNI Air, it then became a big part of the companies domestic operations. UNI Air provides flight operations within the country.
EVA encountered severe financial distress beginning in 2007 as fuel prices rose by almost 35%. No matter what the reason for business losses, it is still hard to take, especially for airlines during higher fuel costs. The airline industry worldwide is in a precarious position when it comes to fuel prices, which cause profits or losses. When survival is at stake, companies take drastic steps to counteract big losses, and that is what airlines had to do. In the airline business, if you can't find cheaper fuel, then you must use less of it, and that is what they did by cutting back on the number of flights.
Planned well in advance, EVA began to make profits according to their schedule that they set out to achieve years ago. Going from absolutely nothing to a market of international size is a very difficult task. Taiwan is the country from which they originate and they do a very good job of serving the community there. Amazingly, they were able to accomplish that feat by eventually merging with several Asian carriers under the aegis of a larger EVA entity. The stability of this company, and its exponential growth into international areas, is a testament to the owners of this privately owned company.
