Photography Made Easy - Tips For Beautiful Pictures!

by Carina Helen Sanchez

Find the right person or thing to photograph. You can have the best equipment and be the best photographer, but if you don't have the right subject to capture in those photographs, your photos will not turn out very well. Choose something which inspires you or a model to pose for you.

There is much more to capture than just a smiling face when it comes to photographing people. The human body provides a plethora of photograph opportunities.

Every time you change something, be it the background or subject, you should take multiple shots just for practice. There are many small differences from one photo shoot to another. When you take lots of practice shots, you prepare yourself for any eventuality. The lighting in any given setting can change, so make sure you take lots of practice shots between real pictures.

A photographer should take pictures that are relevant to what they want to express. Composition is very important in photography and photographers need to know what that is. Pictures with the right composition are pictures that people can view and know exactly what the photographer was trying to express.

It may seem as if red eye is insignificant, but it is a flaw that can ruin a photo. Use the flash as infrequently as possible to prevent red eye. When you must use flash, tell the subject to avoid looking directly at the lens. Many cameras also include a red eye reduction feature.

Look for inspiration in the ordinary. Break out the artistic side of you, and use your camera to take pictures of ordinary items. You can use anything laying around your home; just be creative. A mundane subject frees you to get artistic with framing, lighting, and composition. How unique you want to make you picture is entirely up to you. The challenge is to make a mundane object interesting.

Always keep your focus on the subject to ensure great photos. There's plenty of room for creativity and personal expression in photographs, but you need to keep your subject in clear focus so that viewers know what they're looking at. When you're beginning, this is important. Make sure you keep the subject in the center and in view of the camera. The background will do it's own thing.

Try to put your models at ease as much as you can, particularly if you are not acquainted with them. Many people have an instinctive negative reaction to someone taking their picture. Be courteous and friendly and make sure you ask permission before photographing. Help people see photography as an art form, not as a way to invade their privacy.

Be creative and experiment with the speed of your camera's shutter. Most people use the fastest speed available to gain stills from action shots, but other speeds, like 1/30, can have interesting effects too. Take that cyclist riding past for example. With a slower shutter speed, you will get a sharp image of the subject with a background that expresses speed due to a horizontal streaking effect.

You may take a few dozen pictures before you find one that is worth keeping, but be sure to hold onto the ones that did not quite make the cut. Having a large portfolio that includes all of your work, not just the best photos, can really help you to show off your work, and feel a huge sense of accomplishment.

Giving yourself some limitations can help you be more creative. You could restrict yourself to taking pictures intended to represent one concept (like "sweetness") all day, for instance. Focus your shooting to one spot or room and shoot 100 varied photographs. Limitations can often times allow us to see beautiful, or unique things, that would have otherwise gone undetected.
