An Overview Of When Did World War 2 Start

by Paul Backwards

There are many backgrounds relating to the start of World War two. People have come up with differing opinions with regards to the date when these confrontations began. The question that runs in the minds of many is when did World War 2 start and what caused the countries to rise against each other. There were many occurrences transpired before these attacks took charge.

First September 1939 is the date which is conventionally agreed relating to commencement of various hostilities. Germany was a powerful force under the rule of Adolf Hitler and engaged in territorial confrontations with its neighboring countries. The Germans launched an attack on Poland in an attempt to conquer and annex some of its parts. This move was not welcomed by other European countries such as France and Britain. The two powers declared war on Germany after it failed to withdraw its troops from Poland ushering in the warfare.

Other historians argue that war was triggered by the confrontations between China and Japan which kicked off on July seven 1937. This came up due to the aspiration by the Japanese to take over the political and military system in China. China had a vast stock of resources and this drew the interest of aggressive Japan to take control of these reserves. The battle is also called the Sino Japanese war.

Other records also suggest that WWII began after the Invasion of Abyssinia by Italy on third October 1935. It was a battle that involved the forces of Italy and those of Ethiopia. It resulted from the Italian efforts to annex Ethiopia into the newly formed Italian colony of East Africa. There were protests by Ethiopian troops which led to confrontations.

Many lives were lost in the course of this battle. The main objective of France and Britain was to gain favor from Italy in order to unite forces against the threatening German side. It was hard to bring down such a strong enemy without combined efforts.

Other views suggest that the first and second phase of the warfare can be termed as a single battle only separated by a small period of tranquility. It was a conflict in the waiting which later regained momentum eventually. The scholars holding this observation have not provided an exact date.

Numerous historians have provided dates regarding the commencement of the second phase of attacks. This has called for the need to have a date that can be generally valid and this is 1 September 1939. The question when did World War 2 start is answered by these wide assessment of historical events.
