A good photo is heavily dependent on composition. Not everyone is born with an eye to be able to snap the best shot, so don't be afraid to put in the time developing that eye. For instance, placing your subject at the center of your shot is the norm, but you can create interesting effects by off-centering your subjects.

As you take photographs, also take notes. When sorting through mass amounts of pictures, remembering the exact context or setting of each photograph can be difficult. Use a notepad to write down photo descriptions as well as the file name or number of the photo.

If an object is off-center, you have to tell your camera it has to focus on the subject. You can change where the camera is focused by having your subject be in the middle of the shot and pressing the shutter button slightly. Then adjust your picture however you want it to look and the camera should still focus on your subject. Push the shutter button down all the way to take the picture.

Balance is key to keeping your image in perspective. One of the easier ways to make your pictures art gallery worthy is to have all the objects in the picture carefully balanced. If something on the edge is distracting, cut it out. Make sure the horizon of the shot is level, and frame the main subject naturally.
