How To Cope With Your First Baby. Parenting Tips And Advice.
by Carina Helen Sanchez
Raising children is one of the most daunting tasks a person can face. Read this article for tips on how to be a more confident parent and to make improvements in your parenting skills. You have the potential for becoming a better parent!
Avoid pressuring your eighteen year old child regarding college choices. It might be your dream for them to attend your Alma mater, but you shouldn't focus solely on that school. Teens who feel that they have to go to a certain college may choose another out of spite, or even opt out of college entirely.
Maintain a consistent bedtime routine with your young child. Having a predictable routine gets their sleep patterns regulated and they won't fuss at bedtime because they know it is part of their daily routine. After he puts on his pajamas, cleans his teeth and has a story read to him, he realizes that going to sleep is the next thing on the agenda. There will be less resistance at bedtime when your child follows a routine.
Focus on creating a clear, positive set of household rules without being too prohibitive. This makes it easier for all family members to coexist peacefully. For example, telling your children to touch each other gently is more positive than telling them they can't hit.
You must not give in to all of your child's demands, especially if they are unreasonable. It is okay to treat your child occasionally. The key is to make sure that it is always on your terms. You do not want to let your child think that they can use emotional responses to manipulate you.
Children have a natural desire for independence and achievement. You can satisfy those desires and build their confidence by enlisting their help in the household chores. For example, you could allow your young child to hand you some dishes out of the dishwasher when unloading it. Another good way to help your children gain their independence is to have them sort socks while you fold the remaining laundry. The importance of the task will not be lost on him, and it will also give him the confidence to keep trying new things.
Don't expect an instant bond with your stepchildren. The child may blame you for their parents' separation. By taking it slow and not rushing a relationship, your stepchild and you will slowly learn to get along with each other.
When raising a child it is fundamental to not give into every "I want" that they say. There is nothing wrong with giving in to your child as long as it is appropriate to do so. You need to avoid a situation where the child thinks they can manipulate you emotionally.
Though traveling can be very disruptive to schedules and routines, attempt to incorporate them into your travel plans, if at all possible. Travel can be stressful for everyone, but it is particularly difficult for children, especially infants. The bedtime rituals especially will help your child feel more comfortable in the new space and allow him/her (and you) to get enough sleep!
Make some space on your kitchen counter, set your child on a towel and run water over his hair and scalp. Over time, this may make a toddler more receptive to the idea of being submerged or doused with water.
When your child is young, it is important to form a relationship that is both strong and meaningful. The positive effects of this type of relationship will spill over into your child's teen years, when they are less likely to open up to their parent. With the information in this article, you can start that special relationship, or work to strengthen it.
