Great Photography Advice That Everyone Should Know

by Cordell David Sanchez

Do you want to take your photography from being a fun hobby to an act of artistic expression? You can use some of the advice in this article to start to take your photographs from boring to fantastic. With an eye to improving the fundamentals, the advice here will help you become a much better photographer.

You should ensure your photographs have three vital things when you're having to deal with any type of landscape subject. These three include a background, a mid ground and foreground. Not only are these important for photography purposes, but most types of art.

Be prepared to take notes when you practice photography. When you look at your hundreds of shot, it could be difficult to remember where they were taken or your feelings at that time. Take a small notepad wherever you go and jot down the description and picture number.

Try to get as close as you can to your photograph subject. You want a full picture of the object. If you are shooting a photo of a plant or an inanimate object, this is a very good technique. Try using the zoom feature if you cannot get closer.

You should be aware of the sharpness of your frame of view at all times. Sharpness usually appears in the center of your lens, where the focus should be. It then begins to distort as it approaches the outside edges of the frame of your camera.

Take down notes when you're shooting pictures. It's good to have a context for when and where a certain photograph was taken. Eventually, you may want to create a scrapbook and include some of the descriptive information along with the pictures.

Shutter speeds can give different effects when varied. When you are photographing moving subjects, setting a fast shutter speed will allow you to capture an image with split-second timing, without motion blur. This is a good setting for things like sporting events. On the other hand, you can set your shutter to a slow speed, so you can incorporate motion blur into your photograph as a special effect. Waterfalls and streams look phenomenal when shot with this method.

Create depth when you shoot landscapes. Place an object or person in your image's foreground to provide an understanding of the scale of your photo. To gain sharper images, adjust your aperture to a smaller setting; try f/16 for full-frame single lens reflex cameras and f/8 for the more standard digital ones.

Taking pictures in natural environments requires special care. Do not forget to enjoy the scenery, and be wary of leaving any trace of your presence. If you discover a clean, lovely area that allows you to take very nice photos, try to leave it the way it was so that other photographers can enjoy it as much as you did.

While holding onto the camera, your arms should be closely beside the body. Hands should be beside and under the camera. This minimizes shaking, resulting on clearer pictures. Having your hands and arms placed like this also reduces the chances that you will get bumped or drop the camera.

As you can see from the previous list of tips, photography can really capture a special moment or subject. Although it requires lots of research and practice, it's ultimately worth it for becoming a better photographer.
