Tips on Choosing the Right Baby Shower Foods

Parties and celebrations can't be completed without any food served for the guests. In the case of baby showers, serving foods to the guests have a more important purpose than aiming to delight the guests. As a planner for this special event, you have to understand that baby shower foods must include the food nutrients needed by the mom-to-be. These must not posses any risk for her health as well. Also, the friends and relatives gather in this event to express their solid support to the first-time parents for their upcoming life-turning moment. With that said, one way to show their support is to join the mom-to-be as she eats ideal foods for her pregnancy.

Among the most common foods that should not be included in the list are the raw meat dishes. The ingredients for this type of food include undercooked, smoked, or rare meat such as beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. These food ingredients have a high potential of containing salmonella, coliform bacteria, and toxoplasmosis. Deli meats such as hotdogs and sausages should be avoided as well, unless you make that sure that these are cooked well and consistently heated until served. This food ingredient is prone to contamination of listeria, which often causes miscarriage. Much worse, listeria can lead to infection or blood poisoning, both for the mom and the baby in her womb.

Along with the vegetarian dishes are fruity desserts and beverages. Citric fruits such as lemon and orange are ideal for high vitamin C and folic acid consumption. Other well suggested fruits include strawberry, banana, apple, and peach. Eating much of these fruits can prevent constipation, which is a common problem during pregnancy. Some dried fruits, beans, and root crops can be included in the food ingredients, too. For the beverages, you can have fruit juice or punch, shake, and light wine. Remember, any alcoholic drink is not advisable for a pregnant woman.

On the other hand, ideal healthy baby shower foods are those that mainly include fresh vegetables and fruits. You can have various types of vegetable soups, salads, stews, creams, and appetizers. Fruits are idea for desserts and drinks. Ideal fruits are apple, citric fruits, bananas, and watermelon. Dried fruits may also be added in the list. Just avoid putting too much sugar and other sweet ingredients. Also, you have to see to it that the fruits and vegetables are fresh enough. You have to wash them thoroughly and cook them well. Otherwise, these foods may be also potential to toxoplasmosis contamination. Additionally, you can add fresh and well-cooked beans in the dishes. Some highly recommended beans are split peas, red and white kidney beans, black-eyed peas, green beans, and lentils. These are rich in folic acid, protein, iron, and vitamin B6.

Aside from choosing healthy baby shower foods, it is also important to present them during the event according to the chosen party theme. This means that you have to determine the most appropriate arrangement of the dishes as well as the decorative materials to be used on the food table. Also, if you have some concerns about the mom-to-be's health condition, you have to ask her to consult her doctor. This is to make sure that you will not serve any food that will compromise her health.
