Everything You Need To Know Aout Photography

by Andon Keaton Sanchez

Much is written about how to take great photographs, some of which can seem contradictory. Incorporate some ideas here on how to get the best photographic images and ones that will highlight your skills and creativity.

Many photographers pay attention to the background of a landscape shot and neglect the foreground, but the foreground is what the viewer will see. The foreground in each shot should be modified to add depth and increase the overall impact within the frame.

In most portrait photos, the subject's eyes look directly into the camera. Get your subject to look away from the camera for a more unique shot. Tell them to focus on something that the camera can't see. Another idea is to tell your subject to concentrate on something or someone in the frame of the shot, without looking directly at the camera.

For landscape photography, attempt to capture the natural depth of the view. By placing a person or familiar object in the foreground of your photo, you will provide the viewer with a sense of scale. To gain sharper images, adjust your aperture to a smaller setting; try f/16 for full-frame single lens reflex cameras and f/8 for the more standard digital ones.

If you are new to the world of photography, and especially if you have invested in an SLR camera, take the time to learn the basics. Learn the terminology of photography dealing with picture composition and camera settings. Knowing these things will allow you to advance from amateur to artist.

Take down notes when you're shooting pictures. When you look at your hundreds of shot, it could be difficult to remember where they were taken or your feelings at that time. Use a small notepad, just make sure that you write down what number the picture is in your notes.

You might be looking for a dramatic photo where your subjects are covered with raindrops following a storm. You can create this effect yourself with a spray bottle that you can mist over the subject to give the appearance of "rain."

When photographing people, remember that a person is so much more than a face. The human body can be viewed as individual parts in order to create interesting subjects that you can photograph.

You don't want a photo on top of someone's head, so squatting can produce nice results. This simple technique significantly improves the quality of your shot.

Photography allows the incorporation of a multitude of techniques that are sure to improve your photographs. Some techniques might simply be unsuitable for some photographers, but fortunately, everyone can find something helpful in the panoply of photographic possibilities. With any luck, these tips can help you better your own photos.
