Enjoy Parenting A Little More With These Pointers

by Isaac Caroselli

You will never know everything that it takes to be a perfect parent but you can always keep trying. Parenting is often a "learn as you go" type of experience. It provides on the job training and every day is something different. This article can help you through one of those days.

If your child must take a maintenance medication on a daily basis, you should always check the pharmacy label and directions, upon picking up each refill. It is not uncommon for physicians or nurses to increase or adjust the dosages as your child's age and weight increase. Reviewing the instructions at the time you pick up the medication is your best bet and can save your child from health risks.

Being a parent can be related to a full time job. But, if you can take the time to take care of yourself for a little while each day, you will be a more attentive, less stressed, and less flustered when dealing with your children which will generate a stronger bond with your child.

Don't hold your children's relationships with others against them. Children are going to love other people. Sometimes it might seem that love exceeds the love they have for you and it is easy to become resentful and even to let your child sense that resentment. A good parent should be happy their child has others they love in their life.

Buy a fun ice pack to make immunizations less painful and scary. Kid-friendly ice packs are available in the form of animals, bugs and other fun shapes. By holding it to your child's skin right before and after a shot, it will both distract him from the pain and the chill will soothe and numb the area.

Encourage your child to play on his own without your direct involvement or instruction. Being able to play independently will help your child's creativity and will be a sanity saver for you. Just be sure to be in the room and keep an eye on your child to make sure he is safe.

Allow your child an appropriate level of independence. For example, when your child is ready to walk to school by himself, consider whether or not it is reasonable and NOT whether or not you feel comfortable with it. You'll never be totally at ease with letting your child do things on his own, so just relax and let him have some leeway.

Make sure you talk with your children about how to handle anger issues. It is going to happen, with you and with others. Your children will get angry and need to know how to handle those emotions. It is your job to teach them they must be able to cope and learn to deal with anger the right way.

Make sure you set a good example for your children. If they don't see you reading books or working on paying bills or balancing a budget, they won't be inclined to read or do their homework. A child is much more inclined to follow a positive example than positive advice.

Get a well made twin stroller that fits your life. There are two main types of twin strollers, the side to side and the back to back. Both have benefits that could recommend them for your children. A side by side will allow both babies to see the world in front of them, but as they get a little older it will also allow them to mess with each other. Back to back strollers are more likely to be compatible with car seats so look for what works for you.

If your children have extra-loud toys with inadequate volume control, place duct tape over the speakers to muffle the sound a bit. This way, your child can still enjoy the toy without driving everyone else in the house crazy. Duct tape comes in loads of appealing colors and designs, so you can likely find tape that coordinates with the toy.

These tips above will help ensure that you raise a successful child. As the article states, being a great parent does not have to be so scary. Even though raising a child will always be scary, applying the above tips will help this experience not be as terrifying as you thought. Instead, it will be a very rewarding experience for you.
