DIY Sea Shell Art For Parents And Kids
by Ted Fitzmaurice
During their formative years, children should be exposed to intellectually inducing activities that are also creative in nature. This way, they can develop a strong affinity towards the creativity and of logical thinking. The creative pursuit is a liberating journey, and teaching them about sea shell art is one way of introducing productivity in their routine.
However, this should not be a prerequisite to loving your child, as yours should be the kind of acceptance that is all encompassing. Still, it would not hurt to introduce creativity during their formative years. In a way, it will also serve as your bonding time during the weekends, or when you have enough time to spend after every afternoon nap.
Probably the best way to imprint a design on the surface of a material is with the use of paint. If you have several colors on hand, pour them in separate widely brimmed cups and spare a paper plate where you can mix them. Meanwhile, prepare several pieces of art sheets to get on with your masterpiece.
What you will be doing is like that of stamping, but not with the usual ink. The imprint will come in the form of the outline of the bottom of a clam shell. Once you dip it in the paint, you can then stamp it on the paper to create repetitive patterns.
While you repeat this process to create several prints, move on to using other types of shells. The fun thing is you can overlap each design to make a collage of all the patterns combined. Moreover, experiment with the other colors and work your way through abstract markings if you like.
Framing the finished work can also be a good way of encouraging your child to value his or her own work. There are many ways that you can make a DIY framing outline for the paper. With proper technique, you can easily mount it in the bedroom.
Granted that the paper is thick enough, use a variety of shells that can easily be glued on top. You can outline your abstract work with the shells, or line them up along the edges of the frame before putting the glass on. Just make sure that you put enough glue and that they dry properly before mounting the piece.
These memories can be reminisced fondly if they are done on a regular basis. If you want to spend quality time with your kids, then exploring sea shell art is a way to get you going. Later on, you can move to bigger projects as they grow up to be the budding artists of their generation.
