Meanings Of Feng Shui Numbers Broken Down

by Raymond Chang

Numbers are highly debated in feng shui. One obvious example is the number 4, which many practitioners regard as being an unlucky number.

When thinking about the energies of your home, every last detail is important, and that includes the significance of numbers. However, there are two questions which come to mind immediately.

First, are there really good and bad house numbers? Secondly, what should we be doing with house numbers that bring us bad luck?

As you start to understand the energies of your home at a greater level over time, you begin to see various things, such as how your entryway brings energy into the entire home, or how your kitchen has an effect on your health.

While being aware of the energies of your home, it is also important that you keep a logical, pragmatic mind and refrain from hanging onto unreasonable thoughts when it comes to dealing with many of these misconceptions surrounding concepts such as house numbers.

The ancient study of numbers is what we refer to as numerology. By learning more about it we can assess the significance of the numbers associated with our home.

Understanding Feng Shui Numbers

These are the basic meanings behind numbers and their energies.

0 Nothingness, potential, emptiness

1 A flowing and pure energy, a new start

2 Balance, cooperation, choice

3 self expression and creativity

4 Stability, security

5 Change, adventure, adaptability

6 Patience, calm

7 Self-reflection, solitude, contemplating

8 Abundance, infinity, business success

9 Complete, the highest number

People often misinterpret the meanings of numbers because they are thinking about how they sound in Chinese, and what other similar Chinese words these number words sound like. Take the number 4 for instance. It sounds similar to the word for death in Chinese, and that is why the number 4 is thought of as an unlucky number. I would like to point out that the number 4 in the English language sounds nothing like the word death, so in my opinion it is not something you need to worry about.

Numbers in feng shui are not necessarily good or bad - it is all about energy, and you yourself are in charge of creating good energy when you take control of your life. Understanding and being able to influence the feng shui of your home is one of the factors in taking control of your life.
