Understanding Why Babies Cry
by Kasehehr Caferir
New mothers often struggle with trying to find out why their baby is crying. Crying is your baby's way of telling you that something is wrong and that they want your attention. Babies communicate, hunger, sleepiness and that they want someone to hold them or burp them through crying. The first thing that will make your baby cry is hunger, babies will start moving their tongues around and smacking their lips, create sucking noises with their mouth, babies may also be seen sucking fingers or a blanket to communicate a need to be fed.
Some babies will start rooting when they are hungry, rooting happens when you rub a finger or hand on your babies cheek and the baby acts as if it is trying to latch his or her mouth onto something. Don't forget that flaying of arms and legs is another sign of hunger. Your baby will also give you signals that he or she needs a diaper change by crying.
Babies may also cry because they crave affection they like to be near their parents and want to be cuddled and held. If you had been reading to your child from they were in the womb you might find that one of the books you use to read will quickly calm your baby down as they recognizes it afterbirth.
Sometimes a baby gets colic. Colic often presents itself in the first months after your child is born , it tends to go away after a couple of months but sometimes it lasts for up to a year. Sometimes babies with colic will just cry for up to three hours straight, this can be very frustrating to parents.
At times your baby can get colic, you can recognize this problem when your baby cries a lot once he or she has been fed. Colic is not usually long lasting and happens in the first month after birth and then has a tendency to stop about four months after it has started. Sometimes a baby that has colic will cry for up to three hours at a time. Breast fed children have lower instances of colic than those who are fed with formula. Do not give a baby suffering from colic over the counter medications without first checking with your doctor. Sometimes babies take in air when they are breast or bottle fed and they must be burped in order for the gas to be released from their tummy. Some babies are fussy when they are not burped and some don't seem to mind going without burping at all.
