No More Dog Misbehavior: 3 Steps

by Dirk Gruenberg

You find yourself being frustrated and annoyed by your dog's poor behavior? Fortunately, it does not need to be this way any longer. There are, in fact, many methods that can help you put a stop to your dog's misbehavior.

The truth is that most dogs are loving companions but many times they do some things that are not so pleasurable or acceptable for us. Dealing with bad behavior in our dogs is challenging, undesirable or straining many times.

Misbehavior comes in many shapes and forms. Barking, obviously, is a very common one - especially when the doorbell rings. And so is being aggressive towards other pets and even humans when dogs are eating or drinking.

Naturally, this kind of behavior is no fun. And it can even be downright dangerous. So, no, it simply is not acceptable. But when trying to figure out what to do to change it, one might be overwhelmed and at a loss of what to do.

But it does not have to be this way. Your dog must understand that she/he needs to be quiet and still and this behavior will not be accepted anymore. To do it you need a firm hand all the time.

First, you absolutely need to establish yourself as the pack leader. That is, you are the boss, and he is not. This is so important, because it is usually dogs that question the rank order that cause problems.

You can also ask a professional dog trainer about it. And you should not reward a bad behavior. You should not show fear when the dog gets angry.

Saying "no" "stop" when your dog misbehaves is useful. If your dog behaves well you need to reward him/her. The puppy needs to understand when something is bad or good.

You can prevent misbehavior in your dog by keeping him/her busy with toys. If your dog is bored he/she can show bad behaviors and you can prevent this situation with some toys.
