Items You Probably Don't Realize About Babies

by Logan Baxter

Early childhood development is an amazing subject. Learning about the way a baby goes from his infancy to manhood will astound you. There is so much going on beneath the surface of infancy! Cuteness is only a small part of being a baby! Nurturing and helping a child grow up involves meeting a very specific set of needs. There is so much more to infancy development than most people realize. Understanding what is happening for your baby will make being a parent even more rewarding!

It is hard for most babies to tell the difference between one color and another when they are still very young. It will take some time after a baby is born for his eyes to finish maturing and for the synapses between them and his brain to be complete. Babies see primary colors better than any other, which is why you should choose those colors for his nursery and toys. You should focus the color scheme for your baby on bright reds and blues and greens or even on black and white. Babies can't tell the difference between pastels.

This is why a baby will sometimes choose one toy instead of another. So that means that all of those black and white mobiles that you scoff at in stores for being too "artsy" are actually better for your baby's developing eyes than the pastel one you were probably thinking of getting!

Teething is one of the things new parents dread the most. There is no reason to fret if your child starts teething earlier or later than his peers. Each baby is different and develops at his or her own pace so, even though you might have had three kids who started teething at six months, that doesn't mean that your newest baby will start at that time.

Experts agree that too much mercury is terrible for pregnancy but there are some forms of fish that are mercury free and eating them is a good idea. Salmon is a fish that is highly recommended by doctors because it does not contain any mercury and it is full of vitamins and minerals that are good for you and your growing fetus. It is believed that eating fish both improves the brain function of a fetus and sets them up for superior communication skills later in life and that women who do not eat fish will not be able to pass these things along to their children. Of course this has yet to be scientifically proven so, if you do not particularly like salmon, don't lose sleep over this.
