You already know that most of a baby's day centers on his sleeping, relieving himself and his feeding habits. But do you know why babies move the way they do? Has someone taught you why a baby grows up in stages? So many people do not understand the little things about why a baby grows the way it does. Still others find the road from infancy to adulthood a mesmerizing one and learn everything they can about babies and their development.
Babies are never dull! Only half of the things you have learned about babies is correct. Here are some things that you might be interested in knowing about babies and how they develop.
The heart is usually already pumping by the time a woman finds out that she is pregnant. The heart forms and begins beating around three weeks after conception takes place. Most women take until this time to realize that they missed a period and are growing a baby. If you ever wanted an excuse to be fascinated by babies the fact that it only takes three weeks to build a beating heart would probably do the trick! Doesn't it blow your mind that the foundation of the heart that you have now only took a few weeks to make?
Odd as it might sound, some babies come out with some teeth already in place! On the other hand, other babies don't even start teething until they are more than a year old.
Did you know that at one point your baby had a tail? It is absolutely true! Your baby's tail starts to form at the same time that the other organs like the brain and the heart and the lungs begin to develop.
Until recently even doctors believed that babies didn't smile until a while after they had been born. Gas is usually given credit for the first signs of smiling in a baby's life. For decades most people believed that babies had to learn how to smile-that it was a condition picked up by the infant early in life. It was common knowledge that babies had an easier time expressing their unhappiness over something than feeling and expressing happiness. These theories have been mostly disproved. Ultrasounds have gotten a lot better in recent years and prove that babies can smile before they are born. Lots of mothers and fathers have been given photographic evidence of their baby smiling in the womb. The belief now is that the birthing process is traumatic for the baby and that it takes a while for the baby to get over it and "learn" to smile again.
