Gardening should be a fun experience, not one that is full of difficulty and trouble. Gardening is, most of the time, used to relax people, and should not be something difficult or hard to deal with. Do you own your own property? If so, adding a garden can make your home and landscaping improve in appearance dramatically. To create a garden on your property very easily, use the following tips.
Make sure you abide by the first rule for easy gardening - remember to mulch your plants. This is an easy step that many gardeners don't even think about. When you mulch your plants, it not only inhibits weeds from growing, it protects the roots of your seedlings when they are first forming. Mulch is also ideal for retaining water, which keeps the soil around your plants moist and stops them from drying out so quickly. Mulch is a natural product, not a chemical concoction like most expensive fertilizers. If you buy a good quality mulch, it will give your plants the nutrition they need without the chemical "stuff." The composition of most mulches is simple. Combine leaf mulch (which you can just as easily make yourself) with wood chips and tree bark pieces and that's about it. You can also make mulch yourself, if you prefer. Of course, it's widely available from Garden Centers and nurseries.
Next, you should add some fertilizer to the soil to help boost its ability to grow your garden. It's important not to over-feed plants, so choose a good quality slow-release fertilizer that will continue to feed nutrients into the plant's root system over time. Another thing that helps plants grow are elemental deposits made from previous crops grown in the same soil. For example, if you grow vegetables in your garden, plant beans or tomatoes anywhere you've previously planted peas the year before. This is because peas release nitrogen into the soil that feeds other plants long after the peas have died off.
For a really attractive garden area, seriously think about planting fruit trees or plants. Fruit trees, especially in the spring when they bloom, are beautiful. And, of course, in the summer you have the delicious fruit to eat. Certain varieties of plum trees, for example, can amaze you with their deep purple leaves and pink blossoms in the spring time. If you like strawberries, they are very easy to plant from flats you can buy from your nursery. They make good ground cover and also are very attractive when planted in pots with holes down the sides that the plants hang out of. Their flowers are small and white and, of course, the strawberries are wonderful. There are so many vegetables and fruits that are easy to take care of. Most of them just need watered and some kind of weed control and you will have a bountiful harvest in no time at all.
Hopefully the tips presented in this article will help you be successful with your next garden. No matter where you live or what plants you choose, simple gardening techniques like these will help any garden to thrive.
