A Brief Look At The Picasso Museum

by Pierre Fontaine

Getting to the Picasso museum is a piece of cake. You can take the metro system and get off at stations Saint Paul or Chemin Vert. After that, follow signs that will guide you to your destination.

If you're taking a cab or riding a bus then the address of the Museum is 5 Rue de Thorigny. Buses that stop very close to the museum are 29, 96, 69 and 75.

The building in which the museum is located is a large 17th century French style mansion set in tranquil surroundings with closely cut green lawns at the front. Even people who aren't specially interested in art will appreciate the atmosphere created by the museum building which reminds you of how Paris would have been two centuries ago.

The Museum apparently is in honor of Pablo Picasso's works. But this also exhibits some of the his collection of paintings by his co-artists. Among those paintings are that of by Degas, Matisse and Cezanne.

The Museum brings together the largest single collection of Picasso's artworks spanning his entire career. There are over 3500 separate pieces of art at the museum comprising paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramic works and engravings. All of Picasso's important stages and themes are represented at the museum such as cubism, surrealism, sacrifice and war.

The Picasso Museum has two opening times which changes with the seasons. During summers, it aims to accommodating more people by opening at 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. However, in October to March, it only accommodates tourists from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

The Museum is not open on Tuesday, in addition to Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Ticket rates vary in accordance with age group. If you are below 26, you get the discounted ticket which costs 5.70 euro. Those 26 and above get a normal ticket at 7.70 euro while entrance free for minors or below 18 is free as long as a valid ID can be produced.

If you plan to visit other attractions in the city, like the Paris Modern Art Museum, then you may consider buying the Paris Museum Pass that can be used at more than 70 participating attractions across the city.
