Football Season

by Steven Craft

European football clubs and fans look forward to New Year, which will begin in January, but more than anything they look forward to January Transfer Window. Twice a year players from various football clubs get signed to new clubs to play for. The two transfers occur during summer and winter. The summer transfer open on the 1st of June, and ends on the 31st of August, while the winter transfer lasts only through January.

If the signings are done correctly, there are many teams at the start of football season which are full of good new players. Managers have two options: they can promote young players, coming from youth teams or reserves, or they can sign players coming from other clubs. The new players are expected to improve the areas of the team, such as defense, attack or midfield. If the new player comes from another team, they usually need some time to adapt to the way the new team plays. This usually isn't the case with players signed from reserve of youth team.

Some say that signing are a big gamble, because no one can guarantee that the new team members will perform as eye catchingly as they did in their previous teams, because it is possible they will not fit in. When players who are demanded by the fans signed the teams usually pays a lot of money for them. These conditions make a pressure on the players, and due to the pressure they sometimes are unable to play as well as they usually would.

Signing is January are sometimes seen as signing done in panic. When teams "buy" players they really need to have, it's called a panic signing. For example, if one team has bad results because of problems in the attack, the manager has to find a quick solution. January is a good opportunity to sign new players if the current players in the area are injured of performing badly.

They say there's a tiny blip in January in comparison to June. It usually happens that the majority of big profile players are cup tied in January. If players participate in the UEFA Championship league, European clubs usually don't sign them. When a player is cup tied, it means that he played in the same competition with their club in that season, and cannot play for some other team. These players are allowed to play in domestic leagues only if they do get signed.

If a player is signed in the January transfer, it means the club has had them targeted for a very long time before that. Scouts are sent by managers so they could watch the players for a long time before the signing. Signing a player is a complex process. The two clubs have to come to an agreement about the sum of money for the player. The new club will offer to player the match bonuses, weekly wages and annual percentage, and the player needs to agree to all of it. If players who are free agents are signed, apart from everything else, their new club also needs to pay the sign up fees.
