Learning Spanish is something you can definitely do, even if it's the first time you've ever tried to learn a foreign language. New languages are a skill like anything else, and one that anyone can acquire. When you think about it, you can probably think of many advantages to being able to speak another language. Knowing more than one language can really help if you do any traveling. Yet it can be just as helpful in your own home town. If you only speak one language and want to learn another, Spanish is a very good choice. Let's look at some ways to make learning Spanish simpler.

In addition to reading from Spanish books or newspapers, you can also listen to conversations you hear in Spanish and repeat sentences to yourself. This process can show you how to use proper inflections and using words in the right order and even the way idioms are used in Spanish. An added bonus is that reading out loud in a separate language--especially when you work at it--is a lot of fun. Think of how it felt to learn songs when you were a child; this can be similar.
Keep in mind to have some patience. You won't be fluent in Spanish before the end of the week. You could have all your vocabulary and verb conjugations memorized. But you'll still probably have trouble making sentences. You will only slow your progress if you put a lot of pressure on your self to get fluent fast. So allow yourself to slowly learn. If you do this you'll find you're more comfortable with Spanish. It's also good to learn slowly is because people will have more patience with you if they know you're trying to learn their language. If you talk like you're completely fluent, and you aren't, you could easily offend someone. Teach yourself to think in Spanish. Whenever you catch yourself thinking about anything, make the effort to translate whatever it is into Spanish. Take your time and learn how to do this at your own pace. Anytime you find yourself thinking something, simply try to construct the same words using Spanish. This is something you have to practice regularly to get comfortable with it. The more you do it, the more quickly your mind will be able to convert words into the new language. You will know you have mastered this when you find that you sometimes think in the new language when you aren't even intending. The next stage is to take your internal thoughts and speak them out loud, so you learn how to converse in Spanish.
Try putting tags on things in your environement. This can be helpful to do wherever you can, whether in the rooms of your house or your workplace. You will be constantly viewing the words then, without even having to consciously think about it. Don't risk confusing different words; this can be quite embarrassing! You don't want to be remembered for making a gaffe or even making someone angry by using the wrong word by mistake. The reason this method of tagging works is that your mind immediately begins to think using the new language rather than your native one whenever you look at the labeled items.
You can take a course. A lot of people are nervous to take a language course with others. In a class, students usually have to talk in front of the other students. This intimidates many people.
However, it is highly recommended to try and do it no matter what mistakes you make. That's the best way to learn because everyone else is learning, too! Everyone can participate in making silly mistakes! It's certainly better than committing your mistakes in front of a stranger who may be less prone to forgiveness.
Work on improving your "ear" for the language. Some languages put more emphasis on the 'verbal' than the written. Good listening skills are still very important if the language is still a living language. Memorizing the alphabet, or writing a proper sentence, only takes you so far. Naturally, you'll want to be able to understand other people when they speak to you. The best way to do this is to listen to as much of your chosen language as possible. When you get to the point where you can correctly identify Spanish after hearing just a few words, then you'll be on your way to success.
Become immersed in the language.
You'll learn faster if you can watch Spanish language TV or movies. Any movie rental store offers foreign language films, and it seems there's no shortage of Spanish TV. You'll be able to learn how Spanish is really spoken without needing to travel. This is helpful if you live somewhere that does not have a large Spanish speaking population to converse with. Just turn on the subtitles when you watch. As you feel your level of understanding getting better - turn them off and then see for sure. Your learning will go much faster by using this method. There are a lot of different techniques you can employ if you need help learning Spanish. Many people get help when they start learning another language. Most likely, certain strategies will be more effective for you than others; this is normal. Your best bet is to look around and try out as many methods as you can find. Speaking Spanish is something you can do; just find the method that works for you and be persistent.
Don't think that it has to be hard work or a chore to learn this new language. If you don't yet have a second language, Spanish is a good one to start with, because it's relatively easy. There are lots of ways to go about learning a new language. Not everyone has to take the same approach; ask yourself what seems like the best choice. It becomes much easier to learn when you find a teacher, course or system that really appeals to you. If you are patient and you work slowly but steadily you could become fluent in your new language before you know it!

It's not necessary to suffer when learning a new language such as Spanish. The beginning may be a little rough, but in time it does get a lot better. You definitely can become fluent if you stay with it and use the helpful tips that are available.
