Five Of The Very Useful Knitting Tips You Will Ever Know

by Avis Boehmer

One of knitting's strategies is to be really familiar with all the small tips and tricks that you can employ for any project. When I visit discussion boards or perhaps check out my favorite LYS (aka my 'local yarn shop') you'll find knitters there who have been knitting for many years and several are still unfamiliar with little methods that are not only time savers, but sewing life savers, also.

So I have composed a list of Knitting's Best Ideas. A few of these may seem rather obvious, however you'd be surprised at how many knitters have never heard about them!

Without further ado, here we go:

1. Before you even create a slip knot, READ the entire pattern through at least once. You will be amazed at exactly how directions are created. Some very helpful hints or notes will be added near the end of the pattern. Typically these are things you should know straight away. Make sure to read the pattern through entirely, so you find out what these are.

2. Whenever casting on , always leave yourself sufficient yarn to make it all the way through the stitches you should cast on the needle. Don't be bothered if you have a very long strand of yarn left over, just cut it to size.

3. When joining a second or third ball of yarn, attempt to join them at the edges rather than in the middle of a row. Then your seams will be hidden in the sides and it just looks much neater .

4. When knitting off of a chart or directional rows, always utilize a sticky note to maintain your place . Then when you should walk away, always note down the last row knitted on the sticky note so you'll recognize just where to pick up when you resume. The sticky little note could be moved down the page while you go.

5. When knitting with a ball of yarn, always take the yarn from the middle and not the outside. If you do this, your yarn will flow perfectly and not become a monster tangled clutter as you knit. If you do encounter a knotted mess, just cut the mess out, then put your yarn again. A few knots are impossible to untangle!

These guidelines should get you started. As I find more fun knitting tricks, I'll create additional articles .
