Become An Expert Gardener With This Useful Information!

by Johnathan Black

If you have just started out as a gardener, you probably have visions of a beautiful, bountiful garden and lots of enjoyable hours tilling the soil and reaping the fruits of your labors. While this can surely be the case, very often, gardening involves a lot of hard work followed by baffled disappointment - at least until you know what you are doing! Here are some ideas to help you cultivate your green thumb as quickly as possible.

To make birds stay away from the produce you're growing in your garden, tie mylar balloons near your plants. These will scare away the birds and keep your fruit and veggies safe until you're ready to pick them. Silver balloons or balloons that sparkle in the sun make especially effective bird repellents.

You also need to make sure that you detach your hose from any outside water outlets when the weather starts to get cold. This is important so that you do not cause any damage to your hose or outlet due to freezing water.

When you are pruning a tree, make sure that your tools are sharp. Cutting with a dull tool can tear the bark off the tree, causing unnecessary damage to the tree. Not only that, cutting with a dull tool causes you to spend extra energy in cutting. A sharp tool will give you a cleaner cut with the least amount of effort.

Don't underestimate perennials in making your gardening life easier. Perennials will continue to come back every year and will only require minimal maintenance such as weeding and fertilizing. You'll save time by not having to plant and care for seedlings or starts. Different perennials will perform better in different climates, but sorrel greens and horseradish should work almost anywhere.

For the fall season, plant a few fall edible plants in your garden containers. Beautiful selections of kale and mustard greens have lovely shades of greens and purples and offer different textures to the arrangement. Add a few edible pansies to bring color to the green textures. The combination is fetching and will last well into the winter.

Gardening is a wonderful way to bond with nature. This article provides some pieces of advice to keep in mind when gardening so you can have the least stressful, most positive experience possible. The tips provided can help you go about gardening properly and concentrate on the things that make you happiest.
