Sure you know that most of a baby's day involves sleeping eating and bowel relief. But do you know why babies move the way they do? Do you understand how babies develop? Most parents don't bother learning the specific of their child's development. For people who are interested in becoming parents, however, baby and early childhood development is a fascinating subject.
Every day is a surprise when you have a baby! Only half of the things you have learned about babies is correct. Here are some interesting facts about infant development.
Babies are not skilled at telling the difference between most of the colors they see. It will take some time after a baby is born for his eyes to finish maturing and for the synapses between them and his brain to be complete. The best colors you can use for your nursery and for your baby's toys are primary colors, not pastels. You should focus the color scheme for your baby on bright reds and blues and greens or even on black and white. Pastels are better for adult eyes.
A baby's first teeth are momentous and dreaded by many parents. It is important, though to not worry too much if your baby seems to start teething early or late. Babies grow at different rates and even if you have other kids who started to get their teeth in at a specific age that is not a guarantee that this baby will follow suit.
While most doctors recommend against consuming mercury while a woman is pregnant, eating non mercury forms of fish can be quite healthy. By now you've probably had a bunch of your friends as well as your doctor tell you that you should be eating salmon because it contains a bunch of healthful properties that you and your baby need and it is mercury free. There are those who say that a woman who eats fish regularly during her pregnancy will give birth to babies with better developed brains and a better capacity for communication than babies carried by women who did not eat fish regularly during their pregnancies. This theory is still just that: a theory, so do not beat yourself up for neglecting your baby's brain if you don't eat fish, can't eat fish or simply haven't eaten that much fish during your pregnancy.
