As the winter months draw in the joy of a new baby can be immense. Babies born in the winter months can bring a happy ending to a pregnancy that has survived a hot summer. Winter babies can give the parents the chance to choose traditional baby names such as Gabrielle and Noel.
If you are having a winter baby then the latter stages of your pregnancy will be spent during the colder months which can be far better than being pregnant through a long hot summer. However those having winter babies need to make sure that they eat well, take care of their health and take extra care not to slip on icy, snowy streets in the latter stages of pregnancy.
Baby names can be greatly influenced by the month in which the baby is born. Babies born during late December can be fortunate to have traditional festive names. Babies born throughout the winter can have nice warm sounding baby names such as Brandy and Sherry.
As you enter the final stages of pregnancy you should make sure you have the essential outwear for your baby when they arrive. When you are out and about taking walks you can buy cosy toes to fit your pushchair that will keep your baby toasty in the coldest of weather. If you are using a car seat that fits on a travel system pushchair you can even get warm covers for the car seat, but you should remember to take them off in the car. If you want your baby to be warm without using a blanket or cosy toes then you may consider buying an all in one snow suit. These keep your baby warm and if they have buttons or zip on the front they can easily be undone without disturbing a sleeping baby when you go inside.
When you are out and about with your winter baby you will want to make sure that they have a hat on their head as the majority of heat loss occurs through their head. You should remember though that when your baby is inside that you don't want them to overheat so remove all hats inside to allow your baby to cool.
In the latter stages of pregnancy your thoughts will turn to your baby's nursery and making sure that your baby's room is not to cold during the winter is essential. A nursery thermometer should help you keep the room at the right temperature, between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius. Remember when your baby is sleeping that they should not get too hot or too cold so make sure that the cot is not positioned too close to any radiators or in a draft from a window.
Babies need to be warm when they sleep but not too warm and the best approach to this is to use a layered system of blankets and sheets, remembering that a folded blanket is in effect 2 blankets. If you choose to use a baby sleeping bag then make sure you are using one rated for winter use and are aware of the recommended amount of clothing your baby should have on for the temperature of the room.
Winter babies can give everyone something to look forward to during cold months along with the chance to do some extra special Christmas shopping. Having a winter baby can make the long pregnancy worth every moment as you experience your special bundle of joy.
