Craft stores or craft sections at your local department store are perfect places to find ribbon, artificial flowers and Styrofoam along with many other odds and ends that you need. Look for closeouts and discontinued items for even greater savings. Planning ahead is another way to save a lot of money. If you know well in advance that you are going to be hosting an event, you can take advantage of end of season clearance sales to stock up.
Find an area in your home where you can spread out your supplies and begin the creative process. You will be working from the inside out to put together your centerpiece. Usually you will begin with a base form. This may be Styrofoam, a riser, a candle holder or a vase. The other pieces of the project will attach to or be contained within this base. You begin with the base and work your way outward.
