Games for Young Kids

These days, kids and technology seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. Kids are able to understand and work with everything from cellphones to computers at an increasingly younger age. Many of you know exactly what I'm talking about as you have little ones who are eager to curl up with your smart phone and explore your latest apps.
While we offer a collection of  dress up games for download, we thought we would look and see which of those games are the best candidates for young kids who may not be ready for more complex game mechanics. These games, while appropriate for young gamers, still likely require a little assistance - especially for kids under the age of three.
Incidentally, there is an increasing amount of research centered on the effects of games on kids. Most of it isn't centered on young children, but much of it has highlighted the following:
  • Games give kids a non-threatening way to engage with and learn about technology thus helping prepare them for a highly technical world.
  • Games offer a distraction for children who are in physical pain and discomfort. Hospitals have started utilizing games as a new approach to pain management.
  • Video games and computer games are known to improve hand-eye co-ordination and assist with rehabilitation of fine motor skills.
  • Games induce decision making and teach players to think quickly and utilize the OODA Loop for decision making.
  • Multiplayer games - especially those with real-time chat - foster teamwork and hone social skills
  • Many games improve language skills by asking players to find various items and showing the name on the screen
  • Many games are based on factual world history, city governance, and complicated machinery teaching children about life in the world
Without further adieu, here are five games that are great for young kids to play. Happy gaming!
