How kids make friends


• Studies of children have found popularity in preschool is associated with verbal ability, kindness, and low aggression.
• For 5 - and 6 years of age, the predictor of peer acceptance may be the child's ability to understand the mental states of others. As children grow, the links between the popularity and empathy and interpersonal skills, moral reasoning and perspective taking stronger.
• How kids make friends if they have fun together, feel a sense of confidence, and make others feel good about them.
• Friendships are more common among children who are similar children are more likely to reach an agreement about what is fun. You may not always agree with the choice of your child's friends. It is important to communicate their concerns about the negative behavior and inadequate. Avoid being judgmental or critical, and meet your child's friends and their parents.
