Warm weather is upon us, and many knitters aren't sure what they should knit, associating knitting with making warm sweaters and winter accessories. The truth is, there are a huge variety of items you can knit for warmer weather! Walk around your local yarn store and get inspired by some of the lighter weight yarns this spring.
A great project to kick off the spring is a bag, as they can be used all year round. Market bags are perfect for the spring, as farmer's markets begin to open again. These bags are stylish and eco-friendly. Check out the Grrlfriend Market Bag on ravelry.com if you're interested in this project.
Looking for a big spring project? Consider a lacy cardigan with three quarter sleeves or a knit vest. This will give you a large project to work on that is appropriate for warmer weather. Check out the popular short sleeved cardigan on Ravelry called Abelone.
Lightweight shawls are a great knit for spring, as they are perfect for a chilly evening. Knit dresses also become increasingly popular in warm months. Beach covers are great to knit in anticipation of summer months ahead. If you're interested in these projects, take a look at some cotton or bamboo yarn at your local yarn shop.
Socks are another great Spring project, as they can be worn all year round. Short socks made of lightweight fibers are perfect for warmer weather. Those who do yoga in the spring enjoy knitting yoga socks, as well as carriers for yoga mats.
If you want to knit with lightweight yarns, knit for babies and children. This is the perfect time to catch up on knitting for friends and family with newborn babies. Consider knitting baby blankets, sweaters, hats, and booties.
If you do a lot of knitting for the holidays, the spring may be a great time to start. If you have a large family, or are considering projects that will take months to finish, start your fall and winter knitting now! It will save you time and pressure later in the year.
Household items also make great spring knitting. Make coffee cozies, dishcloths for the kitchen, or small toys for children. There are so many projects you can knit for spring, you'll never have to put down your knitting needles!
