Darkroom Secrets: Proper Photography Techniques For Amateurs

by Martha E. Hernandez

If you do not have experience with the art of photography, you may feel quite intimidated by the idea of trying it. With so many different elements to master, amateur photographers often get caught up in the process. The following article gives you some great tips to help you sort through all this information.

Take a lot of experimental photographs when you are working with a new subject or background. Every location presents a photographer with a new challenge, and snapping practice shots can help you to achieve a perfect finial photograph. The lighting in any given setting can change, so make sure you take lots of practice shots between real pictures.

This is a tip you can use in photography. Learn the basics about different types of shutter speeds. The shutter speed settings you will find on your camera are: P,M,A & S. The "P" stands for program mode. This setting is fully automated and will set both the shutter speed and aperture for you. If you have no clue about what subject you're photographing, the "P" setting is helpful.

Take your pictures quickly. Taking longer to snap a photo increases the odds that something will move, change or in other ways ruin your perfect photo op. The faster you can get your pictures taken, the better.

Only select your very best photographs to display. Don't show all your photos, or even too many images of similar subjects. This will make looking at your pictures very boring to everyone else - no one likes to look at the same subject over and over. Change things up, and show variety in your photography.

Don't limit your portrait photography to just the face. The human body can be viewed as individual parts in order to create interesting subjects that you can photograph.

Be sure of your flash's range when you are taking pictures in the dark. If you are not aware of the range of your flash it will be very likely that you will not get the quality pictures you want. To get to know the range of your camera's flash, you should take the time to test it out so that you can take the best pictures when the time comes.

Inspire your own creative photographs by joining photography clubs or taking photos with another photographer. You can learn a lot about technique from other people, as long as you are careful to maintain your unique perspective. You can even compare photographs of the same subject with another photographer and discuss the differences.

To get the best shots in dim or dark situations, you need to decrease your camera's f-stop, or aperture setting. Adjusting the aperture will open it further, allowing for more light to flood the camera lens as you capture a photo.

Now that you see some new ideas for taking better pictures, you have the tools necessary to impress your family and friends with your new photography aptitude. If you keep honing your skills, you could be able to be a professional photographer who can capture and create beautiful photographs for others!
