Antique Teddy Bear - Adorable and Lovely Antique Bears

by Jan Peter

It is thought to be that antique teddy bears is one of the most well-known hobbies many people do these days. It is both having an important appeal and also an investment. A great deal of these antique teddy bears may be quite costly, though the costs have stabilized in the past few years. Toy bears had been extremely popular during the early 1870's and 1880's and it became one of the most successful toys in the toy making industry.

It started in Germany, were wooden bear toys from the Black Forest was produced and it comes in numerous forms and sizes. Nonetheless, soft toy bears was produced throughout the 1890's, it become more realistic and a lot cuter! Margarete Steiff has become the most well-known of these German manufacturers.

Having suffered with polio since childhood, she made toys as a source of income, making use of felt for some of her first ranges, which were usually various types of animals. Her first soft bear was produced in 1902. In 1903 a US buyer named Hermann Berg purchased 3000 of these in the Leipzig Toy Fair, to be marketed on the American market.

The same year, a store owner in Brooklyn, USA, named Morris Michtom, was influenced by cartoons of the then President, Teddy Roosevelt, which highlighted how he refused to slay a bear cub on a bear hunt. Morris then also made a soft toy bear. He subsequently named it 'Teddy', which was a popular name due to the reputation of the President.

Antique teddy bears are old. They must have been produced before 1940. These bears are generally quite uncommon, particularly those which are in good condition. Usually they're the well-loved toys of children and suffer from the wear and tear of this relationship. Antique bears in great situation are therefore expensive and so it is very essential that you are sure that the collectible item that you are interested in is indeed genuine. Unscrupulous people do indeed produce fake antique specimens, so the provenance (documented evidence) of authenticity is very important.
