Wedding day can be very chaotic for everyone involved in the wedding. This is why as a wedding photographer it is so important to be organized, by having a plan and schedule ahead of time. This will help you to stay organized so that you can make the most of your time and capture the most pictures with the limited amount of time you have. Staying organized and on task will also help to keep the bride and groom happy.
The day of the wedding before you even head to the location, you will want to make sure you eat something since you don't know how busy you will be, and you might not even get a break to eat. Pack all of your gear ahead of time and double check that everything is charged and working. Make sure that you have everything that you need including your cameras, batteries, memory cards, etc.
Before the ceremony begins, it's likely that the bride and groom will want photos taken of the behind the scenes before the ceremony takes place, getting ready stages. You can get to the venue, or hotel where they are getting ready to capture some of these shots. Some shots to include are the bride getting her hair and makeup done. The bride's dress hanging nicely, the bride's shoes alone, the bride's bouquet alone, the bride getting zipped up into her dress, as well as the bride putting on her shoes, or getting her veil pinned in are also great shots that you should include. Once you have captured the bride getting ready, you can also capture the groom getting ready along with members of the wedding party. If you have time take some photos of the venue including the ceremony and reception areas as well as any detailed photos of the table arrangements, and decorations. Now is a great time to also get photos of guests arriving.
There are some important shots you will want to right as the ceremony begins, or you can even try to take these shots right before the ceremony starts. These include some really important family shots so make sure you get photos of the parents and grandparents. Also get shots of the groom and groomsmen arriving as well as shots with the bridesmaids and groomsmen together. If you have time photograph the bridesmaids individually, as well as paired up with the groomsmen. Also take shots of the maid of honor by herself as well as other important members of the wedding party including the flower girls and the ring bearer. Continue to take pictures during the ceremony as each walks down the aisle as well as many shots of the bride walking down the aisle with her father, and her father handing her off to the groom. Keep shooting the whole ceremony to capture every moment that the couple and wedding party will cherish.
After the ceremony has ended keep shooting as you are sure to capture some amazing action shots of the bride and groom happily celebrating with everyone coming up to greet and congratulate them. This is a great time to capture the emotions of everyone at the wedding.
As a wedding photographer you should always have a plan going into any wedding photo shoot as it will keep you on task and ensure that you get the most shots in the limited amount of time you have.
