Travel Bicycles & the Safety Precautions to Accompany Them

Unless you're Alec Baldwin, chances are that you have a basic understanding of what the rules for travel bicycles entail. An article shown on the NY Daily News website talked about how the "30 Rock" was riding about without a helmet on his head. In a move that did nothing for him as far as reputation goes, he was seen talking on his cellphone during the ride. It's clear that Baldwin could have gotten into accident and that there are ways to prevent this from occurring to you.
1. Your surroundings are important, so make note of them. For example, if you're traveling down one side of the road and you have to go around to the other, look over your shoulder to see your blind spot. You won't be able to tell if a car or any other kind of vehicle will come up behind you, so be certain that you have a keen sense of awareness while riding. This prevents you from getting caught into accident or causing one in which others may be negatively impacted.
2. Safety gear is important, especially if you're going about long, strenuous rides on <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/13/04/p3459683/linus-bike-manufacturer-of-city-bikes-commented-on-the-new-bike-share-c/">travel bicycles</a>. The one aspect which Baldwin seemed to have forgotten was that you have to be able to dress yourself for trips, especially if you're going to be riding in New York City. Baldwin was reportedly not spoken to by an officer, which simply baffles me. I would like to think that New York City, one of the busiest places in the world, would have at least someone on duty that caught sight of Baldwin's daredevil-like actions. Regardless, I would not recommend that you go about the same actions and that you take better care when operating travel bicycles. Understanding precautions and rules while on the road will only help you ride along in a safer fashion.
