What You Need To Know About Pandora
by Anita Hale
Pandora is more than just a moon of Saturn. In fact, it is also a well known Danish jewellery designer. Today it's predominantly known for its creation of charms and associated charm jewellery. Pandora has produced literally hundreds of different varieties of charms that are sold around the world. These charms are undoubtedly the company's top seller, but they also make other lines of jewellery too. These include earrings, anklets, pendants and watches.
The company Pandora began under the leadership of married couple Per and Winne Enevoldsen. Per had begun his career as a goldsmith. It wasn't until 1982 that he took the plunge and bought his own jewellery shop in Copenhagen, Denmark. During this time, Per and Winnie regularly travelled to Thailand in search of jewellery to sell. Theses visits would sow the seeds of the company's evolution.
However, by 1984 they decided it was time to expand their business. The idea was to focus their abilities on wholesale rather than appearing only as a jewellery shop. Their trips to Thailand subsequently inspired them to open a production facility overseas. It was branded Pandora Productions. They hired Lone Frandsen to fashion their very own range of jewellery.
The name Pandora Productions had become known simply as "Pandora" by 1987. The plant had been relocated back to Denmark and the couple established a head office in Copenhagen. The business also decided to cease retailing and operate solely as a wholesaler and jewellery designer.
1996 saw Pandora gain another jewellery designer. Lisbeth En Larsen was hired to work in conjunction with Lone Frandsen. Together they were supposed to design and set up a style of jewellery that would be completely unique to the Pandora.
It was a long wait until the big break in 2000. This was the year that Pandora brought out its very first range of charms and charm bracelets. Charm jewellery was back in fashion and so the timing was perfect. Nevertheless it was Pandora that paved the way by using a snappy slogan of "one charm for every unforgettable moment in your life." The charms themselves were produced from quality metals such as sterling silver and gold. On top of that, Pandora revealed numerous murano glass charms. Theses were particularly special as they were hand made on the famed island of Murano in Italy. This mixture of good materials extensive designs on the market suggested that these charms were an affordable extravagance for purchasers.
An added benefit was the simple fact that each and every charm was designed with Pandora's patented threading technique. This meant that each charm would have to be twisted over the end of the Pandora bracelet to safeguarded it. This resulted in being a clever tactic by Pandora. It provided a failsafe that purchasers could basically only screw their Pandora charms onto a corresponding bracelet. Pandora charms simply would not fit onto rival brand. Other types of charm wouldn't work on Pandora bracelets either. Once you were a Pandora customer, it made sense to stay a Pandora customer.
