by Jared Chamberlain

It's one of the most beautiful urban parks in the town of Calgary. It's the hub of the most exciting and the largest events and holidays. And it's definitely an excellent place of escape from the hustles and bustles of the city life. Prince's Island Park is indeed a place to be.

Prince's Island Park is the urban park in Calgary that's developed on an island on the Bow River. It is immediately found at the north of Downtown Calgary. Named after the founder of the Eau Claire Lumber Mill, Peter Anthony Prince, this park was built on the land donated by the their family. It is sometimes accidentally referred to as the "Princess Island Park".

The island park has a surface of 20 hectares and is linked by 3 bridges to Eau Claire, Downtown Calgary and Memorial Drive and Crescent Heights community. Prince's Island Park is a part of the smashing pathway and hiking trail system of the Bow River. A wetland environment can be seen at the eastern end of the island and a beautiful landscaped area at the southern arm. Numerous geese and mallard ducks can be seen playing and swimming around the island park.

Prince's Island Park is also the home of the ChevronTexaco Learning Pathway. It's an environmental educational route on the east end of the park. It winds around a constructed wetland that is designed to treat stormwater before entering back to the Bow River. ChevronTexaco is a superb path that provides an environmental, educational and recreational resource for folks that connects them with nature in an exceedingly interactive way.

Go there for a picnic, or watch an event. Or maybe enjoy the river and their numerous playing areas and never-ending pathways. Have a different experience during summer days or winter days. Whatsoever you want to do or would like to do, you may surely find Prince's Island Park a nice home and a great escape within the town.
