Wearing Newborn Jewelry And Making It Safe For Kids
by Alba Durham
Expressions of love and adoration by parents could span from simple hugs and kisses to material things. It is not surprising that there are children who already wear a set of newborn jewelry. While others may think it is over the top, some parents simply could not help it. This is often considered a symbol of affection that they never want to miss out.
For so many years now, parents have long been accessorizing their children. This is something that they do because they want to shower their children with so much love. Others may raise brows though for they may think that this is way too much. On the other hand, there is the concern as to whether they may be allergic of such things. Their comfort should still be the prime concern.
The most common piece that babies wear are earrings. These are often studs that have birth stones in them. Some parents consider this as a lucky charm or simply a way to establish a sense of identity for the child. The process is not a joke however as piercing can be very painful for the child.
It is preferred that babies are already at least a month old before they get the piercing. The skin and cartilage then would be a little stronger. The device should be properly disinfected to keep complications away. There should be no sharp points and heavy stones too.
The area should be dry all of the time to keep bacteria from infecting it. It may hurt a bit but the area could be cleaned using alcohol. If the child develops irritation, the earrings should be removed right away. The area should heal first before these are worn again or replaced with hypoallergenic ones.
Bracelets and necklaces are also very popular. Parents should realize that the length should be just enough so babies will not be tempted to nibble on them especially if they are older. The locks should be secured as well so these would not be ingested.
There should be no pendants too heavy as well. Lockets and other charming things would definitely be nice but parents should realize that these could be uncomfortable for babies. These could be reserved until they are old enough to appreciate these things.
Rings for babies should not be allowed. It may look good but children are still too young for rings. These would just keep bacteria constantly on the fingers that they love to nibble on. Such would be very unhygienic. Parents should rather let them wear those when they are already older.
Wearing newborn jewelry is more than just a fad for many parents. They allow their kids to wear these things as an expression of their love. And while it is actually good, they should be reminded to take caution. Unlike adults, kids have low tolerance to these things. Their skin are sensitive as well. Parents could also wait a little longer just to make sure it is already safe to let the kids wear such the pieces that they will gift them with.
