Hang on to those old coins that you have because you would be surprised by the value that they hold and what you could actually get for them. A 1794 silver dollar just sold at auction for a record-breaking price of $10 million (including buyer's premium). This is the most ever paid for a single coin and the first to reach eight figures. It will be interesting to see how long this record lasts.
That ten million dollar coin sold so well because for one it was in mint condition. Mint condition items sell better than anything because the newer it looks the more demand there is for it because it is not flawed or anything that will bring down the value.
Other countries coins were used in the United States for a long time until finally we made our own towards the end of the 1700's. This coin was a silver dollar.
Not that many years ago it was unheard of for a coin to sell for over $1 million, although that price point was routinely surpassed by other collectibles such as antiquities and paintings. Now it is not that unusual to see rare coins surpass that level.
Seeking out coins like this is becoming a huge thing now because people want their hands on the money. With investing in coins though you have to really make sure that you are getting something worth getting a good return on or you will just me wasting your time and money.

Knowing that old coins can be worth so much is incredible and makes me want to start collecting coins myself just to become rich off of it. The old coin business is a very profitable one if you know exactly what you are doing.
