Bicycling For Commuting In New York City

by Rob Sutter

Despite all of the problems that New York City may have, I love being able to go there. Yes, the ride to the city isn't one of the easiest and the congested roads are some of the more treacherous ones. However, once you're deep inside of it, I think it's apparent that you'll be able to see just how much beauty there is to it. It's an area where bicycling for commuting can be easily done and the recent efforts have proven this more than just about any other.

For those who have ever been to New York City, you probably know all about how people move from place to place. It's clear that the aspect of travel is broad, seeing as how cars and bicycles alike can be employed. However, I'd like to think that the latter option is more commonly seen and I think that it's somewhat because of how crowded the city environment can be. You want to be able to move around carefully while arriving at your destination in a timely fashion.

Crain's New York Business posted an article about a bike-share program to be released in the city during the Memorial Day Weekend. The program goes by the same of Citi Bike and, once it officially surfaces on May 27th, the people who signed up beforehand will be able to use it. Of course, it comes at an annual fee of $95 but I think that the benefits are well worth the price of admission. In addition, the system has gained a great deal of supporters over the course of time.

I think that it's clear how New York feels about bicycling for commuting, considering the level of support that has been given to it. The article went into detail about such support, saying that more than 8,000 individuals in the city decided to take it upon themselves to back the program. This has definitely proven to be one of the better ways to get around, as companies the likes of Linus Bike can tell you. However, what are the exact reasons why these programs have become increasingly more common?

Health is seemingly one of the bigger points that people are putting attention on, more specifically how to make it better. Diet changes can be done, yes, but what about the physical activity that is supposed to accompany it? Bicycling for commuting can be done and I highly recommend this action because of just how casual a form of exercise it can be. Believe me when I tell you that the effort associated with this action is only going to add up as you continually execute it.
