The Color Run San Diego: A Fun Event That Gives Back To The Community

by Willie V. Knoll

A 5K race, bright colors, and a good time with pals is what the Color Run San Diego is all about. Everyone is welcome to attend as a racer, volunteer, or spectator, but racers will have to sign up ahead of time and pay the fees to be able to join in. Part of the funds collected from registration fees is donated to a San Diego charity.

All races begin at 9 AM, and every five minutes after that colors will be flying through the air. The colored corn starch is thrown by the Color Bomb Squad (a team of volunteers) at all of the racers that pass them by. Because the powdered colors are just colored corn starch, there is no need to worry about poisonous paints or dyes ruining your day. Racers will be awarded the opportunity to throw colored corn starch at their friends and other runners once they cross the finish line.

The Deaf Community Services of San Diego is the charitable organization that the Color Run San Diego will be donating to. Their mission is to empower the lives of men and women in the deaf and hard of hearing community by eliminating barriers to services, education, and advocacy, and this is why they were chosen. Other organizations will also benefit, and a different charity is chosen for each city that hosts a race.

The Color Run San Diego provides a special t-shirt to everybody who takes part in the event. Runners will receive a t-shirt celebrating The Art of Running and volunteers will receive a shirt that acknowledges them as a part of the Color Bomb Squad. Documented racers will also get a pair of sunglasses, a race bib, and other gear provided by the sponsors. People of all ages are encouraged to participate, and racers under the age of 7 can run for free.

People who like to run or just have a good time will take pleasure in participating and volunteering in the Color Run San Diego. This 5K Color Run occurs each year, and a local charity benefits from a portion of the registration fees. The more people that attend, the larger the party and people in all age groups are invited to attend the event. The race isn't over when the multicolored runners go across the finish line, and everyone can hang out with friends while savoring the food, drink, and live music.
