What are Silver Certificates?
by Sienna Nalin
If you do not know what a silver certificate is, you will know today. Silver certificates are a much more convenient form of silver instead of lugging it around and making sure that it is secure and safe. Below you will get more information on why silver certificates came about. You may or may not invest in silver certificates after learning about them.
When it comes to precious metals and having a lot of them, you of course need them to be locked up in a safe where they are secure. To get rid of such a problem, the government used to offer silver certificates that were U.S. dollars. All you had to do was carry that dollar and whenever you wanted your silver you would just trade it in. Those notes are now used as collector items.
Silver certificates can still be issues by investment companies and private banks. These certificates work the same way as the previous notes. These certificates of course will offer a secure location for your silver to be held in.
The benefits of these silver certificates are obvious: First of all, they outsource the task of storing and protecting the underlying silver bullion or coinage. If you were to own a substantial amount of silver bullion that you stored yourself, you alone would be responsible for keeping it secure. You would probably have to buy a safe and take out additional insurance against potential theft. With silver certificates, the holding company takes care of these tasks for you. Secondly, there is the issue of actually procuring the silver in the first place. Silver is heavy and thus expensive to transport. Silver certificates are much more easily traded among investors.
The only problem that silver certificates have is that if the bank or institution that you invest in goes bankrupt, you no longer will receive the full face value of your investment.
After hearing that last bit of information I know you are a little worried about investing in silver certificates, well don't be. Perth Mint Certificate Program is the only corporation that will offer you full protection of your precious metals. They are government guaranteed which means you will be able to receive your full investment.

Silver Certificates are much more convenient than having to provide storage and security for your silver since the bank does that. The only drawback is that if the bank goes under, so does your share of silver. So when thinking about choosing this option of investing choose wisely.
